Current and aspiring flamenco dancers will have the opportunity to attend the 4th Annual Rogelio Rodríguez Flamenco Workshop at Texas A&M International University on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19.

A native Laredoan and noted dance teacher, Rodríguez will teach this two-day intensive flamenco workshop scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The morning session will focus on footwork, arm movements and technique.

During the afternoon session, the students will split into two groups — beginner/intermediate and advanced. Sunday's session will concentrate on choreographies and run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The workshop will be held at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Black Box Theater and is free and open to the public. Participants must be at least 15 years old.

Rodríguez returns yearly to TAMIU to teach the workshop. He has danced most of his life and has trained with such notables as José Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Luisa Triana, Luís Montero, and Roberto Amaral.

Rodriguez also performed as lead dancer for Charo in Las Vegas and has also performed along with Jerry Lewis, Joey Bishop, Dom DeLouise, and Jim Nabors. He choreographed and performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony and Houston Pops Orchestras and is the owner and director of the Rodríguez Dance Academy in Houston, Texas.

TAMIU's Department of Fine and Performing Arts Dance Program and the City of Laredo are sponsoring the sessions.
