If Laredo's scorching weather has got you feeling a bit under the sun or if you're stressed and need help, Texas A&M International University's Community Stress Center can help. With two additional student counselors, the center is now better able to serve more community members this summer.

TAMIU's Community Stress Center is located at 1319 Corpus Christi and is free of charge and open to the public.

Dr. Bonnie Rudolph, licensed psychologist and director of the Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP), has spearheaded the program since its initiation in September 2004. Since then, the center has offered counseling to individuals, couples, and families and has even provided consultation to community agencies.

The Stress Center is committed to serving adults and adolescents as young as 13 years of age. Counselors at the center are graduate students in the MACP Program completing their practicum and internship requirements and are supervised by Dr. Rudolph.

"This is an excellent opportunity for community members to receive counseling services which are normally expensive and hard to schedule, and it also provides our counseling students with the supervised counseling experience they need to complete their course of study," Rudolph maintained. "Everyone benefits in this situation!"

The center provides referral and assessment services and also helps with familial, relational, financial, career and everyday life problems. Adolescents and adults undergoing depression, stress, anger or changes in lifestyle can also seek counseling services.

According to Rudolph, an assessment interview is first administered in order to identify goals. Thereafter, six additional sessions are established if it appears counseling may help address the difficulty.

Rudolph said appointments should be made in advance in order to assure confidential and professional services. Evening and Saturday appointments are also available.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact the center at 956.285.0854, contact Rudolph at 326.2638 or e-mail brudolph@tamiu.edu.
