TAMIU Master Technology Teacher Certification Program Starts This Fall
Technology surrounds us all daily and figures prominently in all educational programs for all grade levels. From computers to Web design and visual multimedia to interactive video, today’s teachers need to be fully versed in technology-assisted teaching.
To that end, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will offer an opportunity for qualified area teachers to earn Master Technology Teacher Certification beginning this Fall 2005.
Dr. Juan Lira, TAMIU professor of education and program coordinator, said qualified individuals would complete a rigorous program that will prepare them for the challenges of today’s classrooms.
“Once they complete the required coursework and satisfactorily pass the appropriate certification examination, they will be able to effectively address many of the challenges facing educators. They will not only be able to conduct training, but they’ll also be capable of mentoring, supporting and guiding others to strategically use technology to deal with many issues encountered in today’s classrooms,” Dr. Lira said.
The 24-graduate semester credit hour Master Technology Teacher (MTT) Certification program will be open to certified teachers who have at least three years of teaching experience. Completion of the coursework in preparation for the certification examination is projected to take approximately four semesters. The deadline for application for consideration is on or before Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2005.
MTT candidates can also apply up to 18 semester credit hours of the MTT program coursework towards a Master’s degree after applying for and receiving graduate admission to the TAMIU College of Education.
In order to apply for admission to the MTT program, documentation must be provided indicating:
- Evidence of earning a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with an overall grade point average of at least 2.5
- Official copies of all college transcripts
- Service record indicating three years of teaching experience
- Typewritten statement indicating why applicant wants to become a Master Technology Teacher
- Letter of recommendation from school district administrator
- A completed application.
