Before your children complain about having nothing to do, enroll them in Mexican ballet folklórico classes this fall at Texas A&M International University. Classes will be held Saturdays from Sept. 10 through Nov. 19, 2005.

"Mexican folklórico dance lessons are being offered to enable the participant to better understand the beauty and richness of Mexican culture. Dance classes will focus on footwork, skirt and hand movements and background," explained Gabriela Mendoza-García, director and founder of the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico.

Classes will meet Saturdays at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, room 123. Times vary according to age. Children 11 years and older will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; eight to 10 year olds will meet from 11:30 am. to 12:30 p.m.; five to seven year olds are scheduled from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

All students must wear shoes with a heel. Girls may wear casual clothing, but black leotards and white tights are preferred and a solid-colored Mexican ballet folklórico practice skirts are also required. Boys may wear casual clothing.

Tuition is $30/month or $80 for the entire session if paid in advance of the first class day.
