TAMIU Welcomes Students With Week of Activities

New to TAMIU?  Curious about what's happening this Fall?  Wondering what's what and where's where?

You're the ideal candidate for TAMIU Welcome Week, a week's worth of fun and entertainment happening Wednesday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Sept. 2 at Texas A&M International University.

"Welcome Week" is designated as the official welcome period to get the Fall semester underway at TAMIU. Packed with more than 20 events it includes lemonade socials, a fashion show and an energetic pep rally highlighting TAMIU traditions.

Students can meet the University president, faculty and staff, fellow students, learn about student services and see what TAMIU is all about.

Dennis Koch, TAMIU director for Student Activities, said there is something for everyone during Welcome Week.

"The beginning of the academic year is a time for excitement and energy and Welcome Week is meant to bring everyone together, new students and returnees, in a spirit of community," Koch said.

The TAMIU Welcome Week schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, August 24:  Information tent and lemonade giveaway from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the University Green; free Planetarium shows for students only at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

Thursday, August 25: Information tent and lemonade giveaway from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the University Green; Pep rally at 12 p.m. on the University Green; free Planetarium shows for students only at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

Friday, August 26: Information tent and lemonade giveaway from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the University Green; free Planetarium shows for students only at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

Monday, August 29:  Novelty giveaway from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Tuesday, August 30:  Fashion show sponsored by the University Bookstore at 12 p.m. in the Student Center; magic show, not open to general public, at 7 p.m. in Student Center Theater starting Nate Staniforth.

Wednesday, August 31:  Movie night, not open to general public, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Theater, room 236.

Thursday, September 1:  University Convocation at 10:30 a.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall; Organizational Fair from noon to 2 p.m. in the Student Center rotunda.

Friday, September 2:  Intramural Fun Day from 12 - 5 p.m. at the Kinesology Building.
