International Week of Tibet Comes to TAMIU

International Week of Tibet kicks off at Texas A&M International University Monday, Sept. 26 with a photo exhibit at the TAMIU Student Center and continues with concerts, lectures and seminars on holistic healing, Buddhism and Tibet, and a film through Oct. 2. The series events will be held at the TAMIU Student Center and in the Centro Cultural in Nuevo Laredo.

All events are free and open to the public.

The photo exhibit, “A Long Look Homeward” is a journey through Tibet's history as narrated by 11 members of the Tibetan community in exile who act as the exhibition's curators.

The curators' personal stories are interwoven with the story of their nation and are accompanied by images chosen by them that illustrate those stories, in addition to chronicling the invasion and colonization of Tibet. The exhibit will be at the second floor of the TAMIU Student Center through Oct. 2.

Tuesday’s events include “Inner Revolution, Tibet a Spiritual Nation,” a conference by Marco Antonio Karam will be held at 10 a.m. at the TAMIU Student Center Auditorium, room 236; “La Cultura Tibetana,” a lecture/talk by Tsewang Phuntso at 5 p.m. in the Centro Cultural in Nuevo Laredo; at 7 p.m., Grammy award nominated composer and musician Nawang Khechog, will perform concert at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.
