International Week of Tibet Continues Through Sunday

International Week of Tibet continues at Texas A&M International University this week through Oct. 2 with, lectures and seminars on holistic healing, Buddhism and Tibet, a film, and photography exhibit through Oct. 2. The events will be held at the TAMIU Student Center and in the Centro Cultural in Nuevo Laredo.

All events are free and open to the public.

Friday, September 30 — Lecture/talk "Tibetan Community in Exile" by Tsewang Phuntso at 10 a.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Auditorium, room 236. "Kundun," a film by Martin Scorcese, will show at 1 p.m. in the Centro Cultural in Nuevo Laredo. From 4 - 6 p.m., Marco Antonio Karam will hold a seminar on the "Introduction to the Theory and the Practice of Tibetan Buddhism" at the TAMIU Student Center Auditorium, room 236.

Saturday, October 1 — The "Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Tibetan Buddhism" continues in the TAMIU Student Center, room 236 from 9 - 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. - 2p.m., 4 - 6 p.m., and 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 2 — Learn about holistic healing with Dr. Namgyal Tenzin, a graduate of the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute at 10 a.m in the TAMIU Student Center. The program ends with "Symbolism, Creation and Dissolution of the Tibetan Mandala" at 2 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center. Afterwards, the mandala's sands will be ritually deposited in the Rio Grande.

Also on display is a photo exhibit, “A Long Look Homeward,” a journey through Tibet's history as narrated by 11 members of the Tibetan community in exile who act as the exhibition's curators. It’s on display on the second floor of the TAMIU Student Center through Oct. 2.
