Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra 26th Season Tickets Go On Sale

In a flurry of activity, volunteers throughout the city are encouraging people to purchase Season Tickets for the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra's 26th Concert Season. The season ticket sale was kicked off this  past Saturday, Aug. 27, at the home of David and Millie Slaughter.

Linda Mott, LPO treasurer, outlined the group's  goal.

"Our goal is to get 500 season tickets sold by September 12," Mott said.

Season tickets to all five concerts in the season are $85 for adults and $60 for seniors. Tickets for individual concerts are $20 for adults and $12 for seniors.

The five concerts in the LPO season, "Where Music Always Matters," include a wide variety of styles and genres to suit diverse musical tastes.

For example, the season opener at 4 p.m.on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Texas A&M International University's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts features the collaborative efforts of the Laredo Philharmonic Chorale and the United High School Choir joining the LPO for a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

Other concerts include "Music and Dance" in November, "Mozart Goes to the Movies" in February (earlier on the same day as the "Oscars"), "Fire the Fiddles" in March, and finally "Passion and Emotion" in April. All concerts are held on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. at either Laredo Community College's Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine and Performing Arts Center.

LPO Music Director Brendan Townsend, citing figures and statistics from a recent American Symphony Orchestra League conference, addressed attendees on the importance of having leaders in the community  invite friends and family to participate and attend arts events.

"The world breaks down into 13% Initiators and 87% Responders," he explained,"You are the Initiators and without your work and dedication we cannot fill our concerts to bring joy and beauty to the greater community."
