It should come as no surprise that when universities are recruiting students, they’re also reaching out to families.

“Families and teachers are the two most fundamental influencers for students as they make their decision to enroll at an institution of higher education.  We want the families of our students to know what is possible right here at home. Our efforts need to extend from recruiting through enrollment and beyond,” said Dr. Ray Keck, Texas A&M International University president.

To that end, the University is hosting “Family Weekend” this Saturday, Sept. 17, for enrolled students and their families.

Betty Momayezi, executive director of student life, said the weekend will offer a variety of experiences geared to helping families get a feel for the campus and the sup port that is in place for their student.

“Our program provides a real sense of what the University means: a remarkable place for learning, living and growing in ways that only higher education makes possible,” she said.

Included in the day are receptions for students and their families with the deans and faculty of the university; a luncheon and conversation with Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president; an opportunity to view the Mary Quiros Watercolor Exhibit and be entertained by TAMIU music ensembles; a chance to meet with various student organizations; attend family friendly entertainment at the Student Center Theater; and a chance to attend an invitational game for the University’s Volleyball team.

Rounding out the day will be an Open House and Tour of Housing facilities at the new Residential Learning Center and University Village and a special showing of “Force Five” at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center and Planetarium.
