Chamber Music Concert at TAMIU Nov. 6

Take in an evening of chamber music at Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.

The trio performing the chamber music consists of Dr. Yu-Mei Huang, TAMIU assistant professor of music, and two guest musicians from the University of Miami — Wan-Shu Huang on piano and Xiaohu Zhou on bassoon.

At 15, Dr. Huang won first prize on Violin Performance Competition in Taiwan. She received both undergraduate and graduate degrees in violin performance and conducting at Florida International University. Dr. Huang also received a full scholarship and assistantship to the University of Miami, where she earned her D.M.A. She was recently named Concert Master for the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra. She is originally from Taipei, Taiwan.

Wan-Shu Huang, winner of the Taiwanese Music Competition, began her music studies at the age of four. After completing her studies from Florida International University, she earned her Master’s degree in accompany and chamber music at the University of Miami. Also a native of Taipei, Huang is currently in her second year of doctor of piano performance at the University of Miami. She has presented clinics and performances throughout the U.S. and is composing new and exciting works for solo piano.

Xiaohu Zhou began his bassoon studies in his native Nanjing, People’s Republic of China. Zhou studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Conservatory of Lynn University, where he graduated with a BM and received his MM from the University of Miami where he is currently a DMA candidate of bassoon performance. Zhou has performed with the Jiansu Province Symphony Orchesta, Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic, and the New World Symphony. He is currently the principal bassoonist for the Miami Symphony Orchestra.

The program includes “Portuguesa” for bassoon and piano by Henri Busser, “Ramonace” for bassoon and piano by Edward Elgar, “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” by Pablo de Sarasate, “Piano Suite No. 1 Op. 15” for two pianos by Anton Arensky and “Scaramoche” for piano duo by Milhaud.
