Border Issues Topic of TAMIU Lecture Wednesday, Nov. 16

The International Bank of Commerce 2005 - 2006 Keynote Speaker Series continues Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M International University with Consuls Michael Yoder and Daniel Hernández. They will discuss "Current Issues Affecting Our Border" in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111.

This event is open to the public and free of charge.

Consul Michael Yoder is currently Principal Officer at the American Consulate in Nuevo Laredo. He arrived in Nuevo Laredo in August 2003 to begin his three-year term.

Consul Yoder joined the State Department in 1989 and has served in Poland, London, México City, Central Asia, and Jamaica. He has a B.A. in political science from Indiana University, a M.F.A. in playwriting from the University of Georgia and in 1987 was a Fulbright Scholar in Peru.

Daniel Hernández Joseph is the consul of México in Laredo, Texas. He has been with the consulate in Laredo since August 1999.

He has previously served as Director for Migration Issues Bureau of North American Affairs, Ministry of Foreign relations in México and as Technical Secretary to Mexico's Interagency Group on Border Affairs.

Hernández received his B.A. from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. And his M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. He also studied at the Instituto Matías Romero de Estudios Diplomáticos, Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores in México City.

The IBC 2005 - 2006 Keynote Speaker Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and business arenas.

The Series brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise to enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.
