Fifth Annual Texas-México Border Literacy Conference Jan. 13-14 at TAMIU

Texas A&M International University's College of Education, the Texas Association for Improvement in Reading and the South Texas Writing Project are sponsoring the Annual Texas-México Border Literacy Conference, "Social Issues on the Border" Jan. 13 - 14.

The Conference is scheduled Friday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Student Center Ballroom, room 203.

A reception is set for Friday evening featuring student readings and the TAMIU Guitar Ensemble. Saturday's activities will include break out sessions, a luncheon with keynote speakers from The University of Texas at Brownsville, Dr. David Freeman, professor of language arts/English as a Second Language and Dr. Yvonne Freeman, professor of bilingual education. Also featured will be panels on reading, second language acquisition, and literacy in México.

The Freemans have published books, articles and book chapters jointly and separately on the topics of second language teaching, biliteracy, bilingual education, and second language acquisition. Their newest book is Dual Language Essentials for Teachers and Administrators.

Registration is $70.
