Registration for folklórico dance classes for children 5 years and up at Texas A&M International University is underway. Classes start Jan. 14.

"Mexican Folklorico dance lessons are being offered to enable the participant to better understand the beauty and richness of Mexican culture. Dance classes will focus on zapateado (footwork), skirt and hand movements, and history of the dances learned," explained Gabriela Mendoza-García, director and founder of the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico.

Tuition is $30 per month or $80 for the whole session if paid in advance of the first class day.

Classes will meet in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, room 123 every Saturday through April 22 except Feb. 18, March 11 and 18 and April 15.

Children 11 and older will meet from 10 - 11:30 a.m.; eight to 10 year olds will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; five to seven year olds will meet from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

All returning and new students must pre-register.
