New French Classes Strike Student Interest at TAMIU

Texas A&M International University's announcement of the addition of French to its Spring academic offerings has apparently met with advance student approval.

Dr. Annette Olsen-Fazi, TAMIU associate professor of English and French, said advance registration for the Beginning French I class for Spring has only one space left.

"This is encouraging and indicates that our effort to  provide students with additional language strengths for the global market and the curious with new opportunities, is being appreciated," Dr. Olsen-Fazi said.

Olsen-Fazi observed that enrollment is still possible in a Beginning French II class, and noted that those that have already had some prior French class exposure could easily benefit.

"If students or community members took some French in high school or college, it will soon come back to them. It's a lot like knowing how to swim — it comes back with a bit of practice. I'd like to appeal  to members of  our student body and community  who might be tempted, but worried about their current level, to go ahead and take the plunge and refresh their French this Spring semester," she encouraged.

Olsen-Fazi holds four degrees from French universities and joined the University this Fall.

Spring Classes begin Friday, Jan. 13, 2006.
