Texas A&M International will open Red River Athletic Conference play with a home game against Huston-Tillotson next Monday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus.
 
TAMIU holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series with Huston-Tillotson. The Dustdevils have gone 2-0 against the Rams in Laredo, winning both games by double-digits.  TAMIU defeated HTU, 91-76, last season on the home court.
    

THE PROGRAM & HEAD COACH

The Texas A&M International University men’s basketball team is competing as a third year program as members of the NAIA and Red River Athletic Conference.  Tarvish Felton (Southern Utah, 1999) was hired as TAMIU’s first coach in September, 2002.  He guided the Dustdevils to a 24-39 overall record in the program’s first two years. After finishing 10th in the RRAC regular season standings in 2003-04 the Dustdevils finished fifth in the final conference standings last season, qualifying for the conference postseason tournament for the first time. Felton has a career and school record of 25-41.
 

TOY DRIVE AROUND THE CORNER

Texas A&M International University basketball will sponsor a Salvation Army Christmas Toy Drive on Saturday, Dec. 17. Free admission will be offered to TAMIU’s doubleheader against Houston Baptist for anyone donating a new toy.
Those donating will receive raffle coupons, which will be drawn at halftime to award a wide variety of prizes. Amongst the prizes is a two-night weekend stay at the La Quinta Inn & Suites on the loop.  About Time, Inc. and Special Electronics are donating the raffle prizes for the toy drive.
 

NOTEWORTHY

Junior Martell Lewis, a transfer from Cochise Junior College, ranks first in the NAIA Division I ranks in blocks per game (3.3 bpg).  He has recorded 10 blocks in three games, with at least three blocks in each game ... Another transfer, junior Nick Ochoa, places in the top-25 of the NAIA rankings in scoring (17.7 ppg).  He has scored 18, 19 and 16 points in the first three games of his Dustdevil career ... Senior Bo Aluka recorded a career-high three blocks in last Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville.  He had previously recorded two blocks in a game twice last season.

UP NEXT

Texas A&M International University will try to snap a three-game losing streak when it opens Red River Athletic Conference play on Monday against Huston-Tillotson.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at TAMIU’s Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
 
Huston-Tillotson holds a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series against TAMIU. The two teams split last season with TAMIU winning, 100-79, in Laredo and HTU winning, 102-67, in Austin.
 

THE PROGRAM & HEAD COACH

The Texas A&M International University women’s basketball team is competing as a third year program as members of the NAIA and Red River Athletic Conference.  Head coach Marc García (Trinity, 1993) began the task of building a new program in September, 2002. He guided the Dustdevils to a 31-34 overall record in the program’s first two seasons, with the Dustdevils qualifying for the conference postseason tournament both seasons.  García has a career and school record of 34-37 .

Noteworthy
Junior Jermina Tomlinson recorded registered 21 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s loss to St. Mary’s, marking her sixth career double-double.  She notched two double-doubles as a freshman and three as a sophomore ... Tomlinson also recorded five steals against the Lady Rattlers, marking the 12th time in her 68-game career that she has registered five or more steals in a game ... Sophomore Megan DeNure grabbed a career-high six rebounds in the loss to St. Mary’s.  Earlier this season she set a career mark with five rebounds in a win over Universidad Regiomontaña. DeNure recorded a season-high three rebounds in four games last season as a freshman.
