TAMIU Expands Agreement With Monterrey’s Universidad Regiomontana

Students and faculty alike at Texas A&M International University will benefit from an expanded agreement between TAMIU and the Universidad Regiomontana’s Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences.

In ceremonies Friday morning at TAMIU’s Student Center, officials from both schools signed an expanded agreement that furthers student and faculty exchange, research collaborations, undergraduate and graduate enrollment and a Dual Degree Program.

“Our partnership first initiated in 1997 has been mutually beneficial,” said TAMIU College of Business Administration Dean Dr. Jackie So. “This expansion furthers opportunities for our students and faculty between our two universities,” Dr. So explained.

Dr. Dan Jones, TAMIU provost and vice president for academic affairs, said the agreement expansion is deeply relevant to the University’s international mission.

“This is once again another opportunity for us to continue to realize our international mission.  We have existing agreements with universities around the world and we hold this agreement with our southernmost neighbor as deeply relevant to our student body and our faculty researchers,” Dr. Jones said.

One of the interesting aspects of the agreement makes it possible for students who successfully complete the program to receive an MBA degree from TAMIU and a graduate business degree from UR.

“This should have tremendous impact on graduate career opportunities in our global marketplace,” said So, “We routinely receive inquiries from employers who are looking to hire graduates who have such international learning experiences.”

Of additional interest is that a majority of courses to be offered by TAMIU will be available to UR students via the Internet.

“Again, this allows us to amplify our international mission in the most technologically and economically logical manner,” said Jones.  “With this agreement, travel time and expense are reduced.”

Students will complete last courses on the TAMIU campus.

University office hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

University offices will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 and remain closed through Jan. 1.  Offices reopen Jan. 2, 2006.  

Spring 2006 online registration is underway at tamiu.edu. Classes begin Friday, Jan. 13.
