Texas A&M International University will begin a seven-game road-swing with games at Texas Wesleyan on Saturday and Texas College on Monday. Both opponents will enter play this weekend with a 2-2 record in Red River Athletic Conference play. Texas Wesleyan is 5-6 overall while Texas College stands at 4-7 overall.
TAMIU is 0-4 all-time against Texas Wesleyan and 1-4 all-time against Texas College. The Dustdevils defeated Texas College, 88-82, in overtime last season in Tyler.
The Program & Head Coach
The TAMIU men’s basketball team is competing as a third year program as members of the NAIA and Red River Athletic Conference. Tarvish Felton (Southern Utah, 1999) was hired as TAMIU’s first coach in September, 2002. He guided the Dustdevils to a 24-39 overall record in the program’s first two years. After finishing 10th in the RRAC regular season standings in 2003-04 the Dustdevils finished fifth in the final conference standings last season, qualifying for the conference postseason tournament for the first time. Felton has a career and school record of 27-50.
Noteworthy
Fans attending TAMIU men’s home basketball games in the month of February can enter a drawing for a chance to win a new car from Paul Young Chevrolet. One fan will be selected for a half-time shooting contest and if that fan sinks a lay-up, free throw, 3-pointer and half court shot in 25 seconds they will win the grand prize.
If no one wins the car a three-point shooting contest will take place at
halftime of the Feb. 27 home finale against Jarvis Christian with the winner receiving a check for $500 from Paul Young. The six fans participating in the shooting contest for the new car will have the option of participating in the three-point contest. If they choose not to participate the field of six contestants will be filled out by a drawing during the first half of the home finale.

TAMIU will play its next seven games on the road, beginning with Saturday’s game at Texas Wesleyan and Monday’s contest at Texas College. The Dustdevils enter play this weekend with a 6-1 record in Red River Athletic Conference play, one game behind front-runner Houston Baptist (7-0 RRAC).
Texas Wesleyan holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series with TAMIU while the Dustdevils hold a 3-1 lead in the all-time series with Texas College. Texas Wesleyan is right behind TAMIU in the conference standings with a 3-1 record in RRAC play (5-7 overall).
The Program & Head Coach
The TAMIU women’s basketball team is competing as a third year program as members of the NAIA and Red River Athletic Conference. Head coach Marc García (Trinity, 1993) began the task of building a new program in September 2002. He guided the Dustdevils to a 31-34 overall record in the program’s first two seasons, with the Dustdevils qualifying for the conference postseason tournament both seasons. García has a career and school record of 41-39.
Noteworthy
Sophomore Nicole Gipson recorded 13 rebounds in Monday’s win over Bacone College, marking the third time this season she has notched 13 boards in a game. Gipson set the TAMIU single-game record with 15 rebounds in a win over Wiley College last season ... Sophomore Megan DeNure finished with a season-high 10 points in the win over Bacone ... Junior Lizzy Herrera registered a season-high two blocks to go along with 10 points in the win over Bacone. She has now scored in double-figures three times this season and seven times for her career ... After dropping three straight games to NCAA Division II opponents in November, TAMIU has won seven of nine games to improve to 10-5 overall for the season. TAMIU was 1-14 overall after 15 games during its inaugural campaign of 2003-04 and 7-8 at this point of the schedule last season.
