The annual Washington's Birthday Celebration Association's Twilight Pops Concert returns to Texas A&M International University on Friday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. As the tradition and title of this event suggests, this short early evening concert has a little of something for everyone, providing a musical beginning to the weekend of WBCA activities.

This event is free and open to the public.

This year the TAMIU Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Michael Stone, once again leads the musical celebration and will be joined on stage by the TAMIU Mariachi Ensemble, under the direction of Joshua Garza.

As has become traditional with this pops concert a children's costume contest will take place throughout the evening. Young people are encouraged to wear their most patriotic costume, and register in the lobby of the CFPA Recital Hall. Prizes for the best costume will be awarded in a variety of categories.

The evening's musical program is filled with patriotic marches and local Mariachi favorites. The band will kick off the concert with the unusual, but entertaining "Gvorkna Fanfare" before heading to more traditional ground with "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Battle of Shiloh March," and "El Kapitan March." Of course, no patriotic concert would be complete without the famous "Stars and Stripes Forever" march of John Philip Sousa.
