TAMIU’s CSWHT 11th Annual Conference Next Week

The Texas A&M International University College of Business Administration’s Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade along with the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) and The Graduate School of Business Leadership (EGADE) will hold its 11th Annual Conference, “Global Trade and Investment Challenges for Western Hemispheric Development” at TAMIU, Tuesday, April 4 – Saturday, April 8.

This year’s Conference kicks off with a reception honoring Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Tuesday, April 4 at 8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The cardinal’s presentation, “The Other Side of Globalization” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 at 8 a.m. also in the SC Ballroom.

The Conference also includes presentations by: Lorraine Eden, Ph.D., professor of management at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas; Walter M. Bastian, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemispheric International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce; Tagi Sagafi-nejad, Ph.D., TAMIU; Nathaniel Karp, Chief U.S. Economist, BBVA – BanComer; David Donahue, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, U.S. Embassy in México City; and Sidney Weintraub, Ph.D., William E. Simon Chair in political economy, Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Panel discussion topics include: “U.S. Immigration Reform: Impact on the Hemisphere” with panelists Dan Griswold, CATO Institute, Washington D.C.; Steven Camarota, Ph.D., Center for Immigration Studies, Washington D.C.; Phillip Martin, Ph.D., University of California-Davis, Calif., and “Global IT Issues and Challenges in the Internet Age” with panelists LeeBrian Gaskins, TAMIU, Richard Hicks, TAMIU, and Horacio Marques, ClubOxford.com

All portions of the event are open to the public at no charge and those interested may attend all or just one of the presentations. Registration is necessary; seating is limited.
