TAMIU's 2006 Encanto Español Friday, Saturday

Watch classical Spanish, Flamenco and Nouveau Flamenco dance performances and sip on fine wine and sample cheeses at one of two scheduled performances of Encanto Español scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4 at the Laredo Little Theatre on 4802 Thomas Avenue.

The events will be presented by the Texas A&M International University Flamenco Troupe. Tickets are $15 per person and available by contacting members of the troupe or Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance at 326.2625.

Proceeds from this event benefit student scholarships.

      

The wine and cheese reception starts at 7 p.m. and the performance at 8 p.m. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

      

Performances will include 'La Boda de Luís Alonzo' by Geronimo Giménez, 'La Leyenda del Beso' by Sotoullo/Vert, 'La Vida Breve' by Manuel de Falla, ' Volare' and 'The Medley' by the Gipsy Kings, 'Duende' and 'Women Walking' by Ottmar Liebert, 'Tanguillos de Cadiz,' 'Tangos de Ole,' 'Andaluz,' 'Abanicos,' 'Baila Maria,' and more from a mix of traditional and contemporary Flamenco artists.

      

Anna Aguilar will be featured in two vocal selections and will also recite poetry. The TAMIU Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gilberto D. Soto, will also join the dancers in "Alegrias" and "Tanguillos de Cadiz."
