International Guitar Night at TAMIU April 13

The Texas A&M International University Classical Guitar Ensemble  will present “International Guitar Night” on Thursday, April 13th, at 7:30 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Fine and Performing Arts, it will feature music and styles from all over the world, including flamenco, jazz, ragtime, performed by the TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble.  The Ensemble is directed by Dr. Gilberto D. Soto, associate professor of Music Education.

The evening performance will include “The Entertainer” by Joplin, “In the Mood,” by Miller, “Seasons of Change” by Garcia and Reyna, “Huapango” by Moncayo, as well as traditional flamenco and classical instrumental pieces.

Ensemble members include Faustino Santos, Alan Retamozo, Steven Arispe, Luis Barrera, Billy Thatcher, Jorge Garcia, Claudia M. Valdez, Miguel Duran, Rene Mendez, Sonia Gutierrez, Rene Duran, Marc Lopez, Miguel Saito, Cindy Medina, Aileen Gonzalez and Tomas Hernandez.

The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble enriches the lives of students and community residents by offering free cultural programs, concerts, and other fine arts events.

For many years, the group has actively performed for numerous community organizations including the annual Streets of Laredo Jambozzie, Washington Birthday Celebration events, Women’s City Club and City of Laredo and County of Webb community events, among others.

It has also participated in  College/University state competitions, routinely placing in the top three.  It  has been invited to perform in concerts in  Austin, San Antonio, and Colorado.
