Social workers and licensed professional counselors interested in continuing their education may now register for a workshop offered by Texas A&M International University on Friday, March 3 from 9 a.m. to noon, in Bob Bullock Hall, room 118.

The workshop, “Current State of Child Welfare in Texas and Its Political and Ethical Implications,” sponsored by the University’s Social Work Program, will focus on reviewing the current state of child welfare and helping individuals recognize and solve ethical dilemmas that are presented to them in their daily operations.

The featured speaker for the workshop, F. Scott McCown, is executive director for the Center for Public Policy Priorities. A retired state district judge, McCown is responsible for the Center’s direction and administration. He is also an expert on school finance and child welfare. Prior to going to the Center, he presided over all of Texas’ public school finance cases from 1990 – 2002 and thousands of child abuse cases.
