The 2006 A.R. Sánchez Sr. Distinguished Lecture Series presented by Texas A&M International University's College of Arts and Sciences concludes Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital Hall.

Dr. Dean Hamer will lecture about "The Gay and the God Gene."

This event is open to the public and free of charge.

Hamer is one of America's leading geneticists, and became widely known after he discovered the so-called "gay gene." His latest book, The God Gene, reveals astounding new scientific evidence that our inclination toward religious faith is no accident. The God Gene sparked a flurry of public debate among the public and was featured in a Time Magazine cover story.

His best-known work, Science of Desire: The Gay Gene and Biology of Behavior, written with Peter Copeland, revolutionized the understanding of human sexuality and ignited a fierce controversy over gay rights.

He is currently the chief of the Gene Structure and Regulation Section in the Laboratory of Biochemistry of the National Center Institute, where he has worked for the past 24 years.
