Foreign Language Classes Offered at TAMIU This Summer

Expand your world by taking advantage of foreign language classes offered by Texas A&M International University this Summer. Registration is currently underway for Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and ESL classes.

Classes begin Monday, June 12 and end Thursday, Aug. 3.

Admission to TAMIU is not required and all foreign language classes. All classes are taught by native speakers and designed for beginning students to bring both language and culture into the classroom.

Beginning Arabic 1, Beginning Mandarin Chinese 1 and Beginning Japanese 1 will meet evenings and are open to students and community members. Most classes meet from 7:30 - 8:45 p.m.

Beginning Spanish 1 is designed for true beginners. Beginning Spanish 2 is designed for people who have already taken Beginning Spanish 1 or have some very basic knowledge of Spanish but are still at the beginning level. Spanish classes are available in the evening from 6 - 8:15 p.m. or 7:30 - 9:45 p.m., depending on the language.

Informal conversations with the instructor are required before signing up for Beginning Spanish 2 to evaluate the students' skills.

The courses will focus on basic conversational and communication skills and cultural awareness. They will provide students an introduction to the language and assist them in understanding and producing the language. All courses are taught in the communicative approach and students will use the language starting from the first class day.

All foreign language teachers are experienced and degreed native speakers of the languages they teach.
