ESL Classes at TAMIU This Summer

Registration is currently underway for Texas A&M International University's International Language Institute's (ILI) English as a second language (ESL) courses. The ILI offers a comprehensive ESL program and less intensive ESL classes.

The intensive program is designed for non-native English speakers who seek to advance professionally or academically or just want to improve their English skills. The full level course consists of listening, speaking, grammar, reading and writing (l/s/g and r/w), and costs $1,038. Students are given the option of dividing the complete level into two half levels by taking the l/s/g component and then the reading and writing component. Each half level costs $538.

Intensive classes will be held at the University Monday - Thursday from 8:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., Monday, June 12 - Friday, Aug. 4, 2005.

Students may also register for less intensive ESL classes. The courses are designed to give the students the opportunity to practice their English skills and improve their pronunciation in a relaxed, but structured and professional setting.

ESL Conversation I (intermediate levels) will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., June 12 - Aug. 2. Tuition is $368.

ESL Conversation II (advanced levels) will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., June 13 - Aug. 3. Tuition is $368.

ESL pronunciation/accent reduction classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 - 7:15 p.m., June 12 - Aug. 2. Tuition is $180.

All ESL students will be required to take a placement exam. The test includes listening, speaking, writing and multiple-choice questions. Fee for the placement test is $25. Tuition for the courses varies according to placement.
