Top Author Dr. Harry Wong to Lecture at TAMIU May 25

One of the nation's top motivational lecturers on effective teaching, Dr. Harry Wong, co-author of The First Days of School, will provide a special lecture on Thursday, May 25 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Recital Hall. The lecture is made possible by the TAMIU College of Education's Alternative Certification Program.

 

Dr. Wong's presentation, "How to Achieve Maximum Success in the Classroom," will be open by invitation to Laredo and United Independent School District educators and TAMIU interns and mentors.

Wong and wife Rosemary are co-authors of  The First Days of School, which has sold over 2.7 million copies. A former high-school science teacher in Menlo Park, California, Wong has been a teacher for over 33 years. His wife, Rosemary, also a former educator, is the book's editor and designer.

The book is considered the pre-eminent book on classroom management and lesson mastery. It walks novice or veteran teachers through the most effective ways to begin a school year and continue to become an effective teacher. It is used in virtually every new teacher induction program, including those provided by TAMIU, and over 60 countries.

Wong has been awarded the Outstanding Secondary Teacher Award, Science Teacher Achievement Recognition Award, Outstanding Biology Teacher Award, and the Valley Forge Teacher's Medal. He was also the subject of a story in Reader's Digest.
