Flamenco dancers should make plans to attend the 5th Annual Rogelio Rodríguez Flamenco Workshop at Texas A&M International University on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18.

The workshop will be held at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Sam Johnson Black Box Theatre and is open to the public. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Registration fee is $50.

The sessions are scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The morning session will focus on footwook, arm movements, castanets and technique.

During the afternoon session, the students will split into two groups - beginning/intermediate and advanced and "level appropriate" choreography will be presented. Sunday's session will focus on finishing the works presented and run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A native Laredoan and noted dance teacher, Rodríguez will teach the two-day intensive workshop. Every year, he returns to TAMIU to teach the workshop. He has danced most of his life and trained with such notables as José Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Luisa Triana, Luís Montero and Roberto Amaral.

He also performed as lead dancer for Charo in Las Vegas and along with Jerry Lewis, Joey Bishop, Dom DeLouise, and Jim Nabors. He has choreographed and performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony and Houston Pops Orchestras and is the owner and director of the Rodríguez Dance Academy in Houston, Texas.

TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences, department of fine and performing arts and the City of Laredo are the session's sponsors.
