“Stars Of The Pharaohs” Opens Friday at Planetarium

You can book a trip to ancient Egypt this weekend...and never leave a comfortable chair in Laredo.

Texas A&M International University's Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium is now showing “Stars of the Pharoahs.”  The feature premieres Friday, June 30 at 7 p.m. and will be shown again at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, July 1 at 6 p.m.

General admission tickets for this premium show cost $6 and tickets for TAMIU students, faculty and staff and children under 12 are $5. Buy a ticket for a second showing on the same weekend, and save $2 off the second ticket. Group rates are available for 50 or more people; advance reservations required.

“Stars of the Pharoahs,” narrated by John Rhys-Davies, shows audiences how science was used to tell time, make a workable calendar, and align huge buildings. Viewers will learn about ancient Egyptian architecture, mathematics and astronomical tradition. Their mythological beliefs were based on a connection they felt with the stars and various astronomical phenomena.

Audiences will also have a chance to see some of the most spectacular temples and tombs of the ancient world, such as Tut's tomb, all recreated in their original splendor.
