More Laredoans and students from throughout the region are selecting Texas A&M International University as their summer destination: enrollment is up almost 13 percent over last summer.

Minita Ramirez, vice president for student success, said the increase is encouraging and bodes well for the Fall.

“Summers are traditionally not a large enrollment period, but this summer is one of the strongest in recent memory.  We’re seeing a 12.66 percent increase in enrollment, or 2,652 students, vs. last summer’s 2,354,” Ramirez noted, “We’re also seeing an increase in semester credit hours (SCH) of 19.53 percent  (12,383) vs. 10,360 last summer. These are also good predictors of an increase in Fall enrollment, which would be tremendous as this is a funding year for us.”

Ramirez attributed the increase to a number of factors.

“We had an especially strong Spring recruitment outreach, have seen considerable growth in concurrent enrollment students and have increased our targeted promotional efforts. So far, the Summer II enrollment is also up almost 9 percent and SCH up 15.23 percent over last  year’s Summer II,” she observed.

Registration for Summer Session II and Fall 2006 classes is now underway at tamiu.edu. Summer Session II Classes begin July 10, 2006.

Fall Classes begin August 28.
