The odds are that if you’re a student at Texas A&M International University, at least one of your inquiries regarding the University and its programs will have been Internet-based.

Technology is bridging distances in milliseconds for TAMIU, which attracts students from all around the world…and just around the corner.  The Internet is becoming the medium most potential students are likely to utilize as they explore their higher educations options.

With this in mind, TAMIU has dedicated resources to a Web Services group that marries efforts from its Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services with its Office of Information Technology.

The target is a robust and relevant Web site that not only anticipates visitor needs, but also is responsive to them and successfully builds relationships of use and exchange with various audiences.

Foremost in all of the University’s Web-based initiatives are strong design, logical navigation and strategic use of innovation.

Design

The University Web site utilizes recognizable University images and word marks consistent with its identity program.  The Web site seeks to incorporate a standardized design template that visually establishes and affirms the University.

Navigation

Ease of navigation is crucial in providing Web visitors with ready access to the information they seek.  The University structures its content for its primary audiences: current students, potential students, faculty and staff, alumni and visitors.

Innovation

The University employs a strategic use of Web innovation that includes an intelligent response system, “Ask TAMIU,” which can provide responses 24/7 to inquiries about student admission, assistance and on-campus housing.  Should a response not be found, the system allows for the student to submit their question and is directed to the appropriate department for answering. All students are provided a free University branded e-mail address that can follow them throughout their college and personal life.

Other efforts include an online campus tour, a weekly podcast, special Web micro-sites that focus on University life, an electronic postcard system which sends University images as postcards, a customizable calendar that segregates views according to type of event and various online systems for services, reservations and information requests.

Growing Still

Just as the University grows, so must its Web site. TAMIU Web Services continues to explore new Web-based initiatives and strategies aimed at helping the University to better communicate with its visitors.
