Foreign Language Study at TAMIU This Fall

A variety of foreign language classes will be offered this Fall at Texas A&M International University’s International Language institute. Registration is currently underway for Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Italian and Spanish classes. Classes begin  August 28. Tuition is $388.00.

Admission to TAMIU is not  required and all foreign language classes are for beginning  and intermediate students. All classes are taught by native speakers  and designed for students to bring both language and culture into the  classroom.

Beginning Mandarin Chinese I and beginning Mandarin Chinese II will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. and 7:30-8:45 p.m. respectively.

Beginning Japanese I will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7:15 p.m. Those who have already taken  Japanese I or have some prior knowledge are encouraged to take Beginning  Japanese II or Intermediate Japanese I.  Those classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:45 p.m. and Monday and Wednesday from 6-7:15 p.m. respectively. 

Beginning  Italian I classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:45 p.m. Beginning Italian II will also meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7:15 p.m.

Beginning Spanish I  is designed for true beginners. Beginning Spanish II is designed for people who  have already taken Beginning Spanish I or have some very basic knowledge of  Spanish, but are still at the beginning level. Intermediate Spanish I and Intermediate Spanish I and Intermediate Spanish II will also be offered. Depending on level, Spanish classes are available in the afternoon from 12-1:15 p.m., from 1-2:15 p.m. and in the evening from 6-7:15 p.m. and from 7:30-8:45 p.m.

Informal conversations with  the instructor are required before signing up for Beginning Spanish II and  Beginning Japanese II, Beginning Italian II  and Beginning Mandarin II to evaluate the students' skills.

The courses  will focus on conversational and communication skills and cultural awareness  and give students an introduction to the language and assist them in understanding and producing the language. All courses are taught in the  communicative approach and students will use the language starting from the  first class day.
