A film by Texas A&M international University visiting assistant professor of communication Marcela Moran has been selected for inclusion in the 10th annual Los Angeles International Short Film Festival (LA Shorts Fest).

Moran, an independent filmmaker, documents human rights violations towards Central American migrants traveling through Mexico in her documentary, "Casa del Migrante."

The documentary includes first-hand accounts of the migrants' plights as they travel to the US-México border and was shot entirely in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México.

In notifying her of her acceptance, Robert Arentz of the LA Shorts Fest said that the film represents the caliber of work that the Festival actively seeks.

"Reviewing the many films submitted, we found your short represents the caliber of work we want to participate in our Festival. We pride ourselves on being the largest short film festival in the world.  In past years, 23 participating films have earned Academy Award nominations, with 7 filmmakers actually taking home the Oscar.  We are honored to be including your film in our Festival this year," Arentz wrote.

The film has previously been selected for inclusion in the April New York City Downtown Short Film Festival and Austin's 9th Annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival.

Moran and her sister, Alejandra, produced the film. Moran edited the selection with production crewmembers including Eduardo Garcia, TAMIU student Fernando Silva and Nuevo Laredo residents Javier Peña, and Shere Pingel.
