Non-Credit Web Programming Course Offered at TAMIU Sept. 15,16

All business — small, medium and large — must have a presence on the Internet. You can learn the tools to create interactive Web pages with Texas A&M International University’s College of Business Administration’s “Web Programming for Non-Programmers.”

Registration is currently underway for this non-credit certificate course. Interested persons should register soon; seating is limited. Course fee is $199. Registration forms are available by calling Cindy Martínez, staff assistant, at 326.2486 or e-mailing cindy@tamiu.edu

Registration will also be held Friday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino, room 219 and class will start shortly after registration at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Classes continue Saturday, Sept. 16 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m.

This non-credit course will provide approximately 10 contact hours.

The class is designed for business professionals with no computer programming background. Students will have the opportunity to create interactive Web pages from scratch, including database access and interaction.

Main topics covered include: introduction to Web programming, Web forms and applications, Web matrix and visual programming, creating user interfaces, connecting to databases, security, testing your application and sources and help using the Internet.

When completed, students will have access to tools and help from Internet experts.

This course is designed for managers, professionals and business owners eager to jumpstart their Web programming. Students majoring in business are encouraged to take this course because it provides an understanding of basic Web programming.

Participants are expected to have basic computer knowledge, but do not have to know programming, Web or HTML programming knowledge.

The class will be taught by Jesús Carmona, doctoral student in the Management Information Systems concentration of the Ph.D. Program in International Business Administration at TAMIU. He is also an adjunct professor in the University’s department of MIS and decision science. He has an MS in information systems from TAMIU.
