Beginning this Fall at Texas A&M International University, a semester fee will be assessed for use of Recreational Sports facilities and programs by non-student users.

The $48 fee will apply to TAMIU staff, faculty, alumni and University affiliates such as on-campus service providers, retirees, summer residents and spouses.  Junior dependents, 17 years of age or younger, can accompany a paid member free of charge, but will not have access to the weight room or aerobics balcony.

The semester fee can be paid at the University’s Business Office, located on the west side of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library building lobby. Proof of fee payment will be required for use of Rec Sports facilities/programs.

Enrolled students’ usage fee is included in tuition and fees.

The fees implementation is mandated by the Texas Education Code which directs that all persons not enrolled as students at the University must pay a fee for facilities and program use.

Fees collected will go towards the maintenance and operation of the University’s Kinesiology and Convocation Center.  A facilities expansion is currently underway to enhance fitness and wellness programs, while also supporting the preparation of fitness and sports majors.

Among programs and facilities available for student and non-student users alike are weight training, group fitness, cardio-conditioning, wellness seminars, two full-size gym floors, intramural sports and sport clubs, multi-purpose fields and a game room and  lobby.  Day lockers, showers and recreational sports equipment are also available.

Registration for the Fall Semester 2006 at TAMIU is now underway.  Classes begin Monday, Aug. 28.  Late registration, with late fees applied, will continue through Sept. 10.
