First IBC Keynote Speaker Series on Immigration

The International Bank of Commerce 2006/2007 Keynote Speaker Series returns to Texas A&M International University with Dr. Pia Orrenius’ “Immigration Issues in the Western Hemisphere” on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC) 111. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Orrenius, senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, analyzes the regional economy, with special focus on labor markets and the border region. As a labor economist, she analyzes the regional economy, with special focus on labor markets and the border region.

Orrenius spent the 2004/2005 academic year as senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President in Washington D.C. where she advised the Bush administration on immigration, health and labor issues. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and BA degrees in Economics and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The IBC 2006/2007 Keynote Speaker Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and business arenas.

The Series brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise to enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.
