In response to popular demand, the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium now offers souvenirs in its brand new gift shop and is bringing back its popular “Noche en Español” for Spanish speakers.

“People had been asking us for souvenirs for some time and the store will hopefully fulfill that need for our visitors. This is also another way for the public to support the Planetarium,” explained Gerardo A. Perez, associate director of the Planetarium.

Items for sale include: T-shirts, lanyards, pencils, pens, key chains, and banners. Future items include: caps, astronomical calendars, mugs, water bottles and other space gadgets.

The gift shop is located in the LBV Science Center and is open every Friday from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday from 5 – 9 p.m.

Audiences who attend “Noche en Español” will have the opportunity to watch two shows for the price of one on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 and 8 p.m.

“Microcosmo” is the Spanish version of “Microcosm - The Adventure Within,” currently on the rotation at the Planetarium.

The feature takes audiences to the Center of Miniaturized Medicine in the year 2053 and travels from the base of the eye to the interior of the heart. Viewers “shrink” to the size of a microbe and are injected into a patient who suffers from an infection from a mysterious virus. Audiences will gather clues the virus has left behind as they race to save the patient.

“Maravillas del Universo” or “Wonders of the Universe” is designed for children in upper grades and adults. The show allows audiences to peer deep into space and take a tour through the eyes of the Hubble Space Telescope, travel back billions of years in time, witness the formation of galaxies and explore nebulae and astronomical structures yet discovered.

General admission tickets are $5; tickets for TAMIU students, faculty and staff and children under 12 are $4.
