Looking for a new way to get some exercise?

Chinese Kickboxing is an innovative approach to physical fitness.  It will be offered this coming Spring semester at Texas A&M International University.  The course can be used as an alternative for the student activity and wellness course requirement for graduation.

The course includes martial fitness, self-defense, stretching exercises, overview of kicking, punching, grappling, throws and takedowns, and much more.  No martial arts experience is necessary.

Practicing Chinese kickboxing can improve coordination, endurance, flexibility, and increase strength.

“The dream of having a Chinese Kickboxing course as an elective in the activity requirement of the University's core curriculum became a reality with the help of many individuals from the College of Education and the Athletics Department,” said Felipe de Jesus Pantoja, Martial Arts instructor.

In February 2001, Pantoja as a freshman, founded the TAMIU Gung Fu Club.  Pantoja has taught Chinese Kickboxing to many members of the TAMIU faculty, staff, and student body, as well as many Laredo residents, free of charge for five years representing the TAMIU Gung Fu Club.

Pantoja credits his childhood, which was filled with discipline, not only in martial arts but life in general. Pantoja, whose father was a former martial arts instructor, instilled in him the need to have a vision in life with the help of self-confidence.
