“The Family Stone” Showing at TAMIU Today, Nov. 2

This Thursday, Nov. 2, make plans to attend the showing of “The Family Stone” in the Student Center Theater, room 236 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The film is hosted by the Office of Counseling and Disability Services for students at Texas A&M International University.

The holiday film is a combination of humor and emotion as it tackles difficult issues with its odd assortment of characters. The film is about a family, the Stones, getting together for Christmas.  The family is made up of a variety of characters dealing with all types of issues such as homosexuality, disabilities, illness and diversity.  The film goes from being intense one moment to hilarious the next. 

“Through the showing of the film, the TAMIU Office of Counseling and Disability Services hopes to increase the awareness of issues associated with disabilities and promote respect for people with disabilities within the TAMIU community,” said Ruby Smith-González, coordinator for the Office of Disability Services.

Counseling and Disability Services for Students at TAMIU combines its efforts to help students with challenges and disabilities to complete their academic career. Services have been created to make sure that every attempt is made to grant equal access to students with permanent or temporary disabilities. The University is dedicated to eliminating discrimination against students with disabilities.  Disability Services for Students staff provides consultation, student advocacy, educational programming, referral, networking, and a variety of other services.

Pizza and popcorn will be provided to all students attending the movie. After the screening, the disability coordinator will be present to answer any question and share information on the services offered through the Counseling and Disability Services for Students.
