Members and officers of the Texas A&M International University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, provided the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library with a special gift recently.

The Alpha Gamma Omicron chapter of Sigma Tau Delta presented the complete BBC Shakespeare Collection on DVD in special ceremonies last week at the Library’s Great Room.

Sigma members collected donations, held bake sales and numerous fundraisers to secure the impressive 37-disc collection presented in ceremonies attended by Society members, administrators, faculty and students.

Rogelio Hinojosa, Killam acquisitions librarian, said the gift is of great importance to the Killam Library.

“This represents a tremendous effort by Sigma Tau Delta and will be of lasting benefit to our students. This collection has been called ‘the video First Folio,’ referring to the original 1623 collected edition of Shakespeare's plays. These great works will now be accessible in a format preferred by many users,” said Hinojosa.

Student Melanie Ferraro is the Sigma president. Other officers include Cynthia García, secretary.

Especially noted were contributions by Virgilio Diaz, Diana Esquivel, Vilma Rita Kirkpatrick, J. William Kirkpatrick and Rafael Avila-Webster.

Co-sponsors for the TAMIU chapter are Dr. Frances Gates Rhodes, associate professor of English and Dr. Robert Haynes, associate professor of English.

The Alpha Gamma Omicron chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is the oldest honor society on campus, having received its official charter on April 4, 1994.
