Best Practices in Managing People Course Set at TAMIU

Learn to better manage employees with a non-credit certificate course at Texas A&M International University. “Best Practices in Managing People” is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1 through Saturday, Dec. 2.

Registration is underway. Spaces are limited. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 29.

This course will give students an overview of widely recognized management best practices staffing, worker performance, personnel changes, feedback and performance management, employee complaint handling, layoffs and legal considerations. Participants will also learn the best methods to put the practices to work and resources for additional information on improved people management.

The program will include a lecture, cases and student involvement in experiential exercises. References to relevant Web resources will also be provided.

After completing the course, students should be able to improve their organizational staffing, performance management, personnel change processes and they possess the tools to evaluate their progress towards related organizational goals.

This course is targeted at managers, professionals and entrepreneurs seeking methods and techniques for more effective human resource management practices to improve organizational results. Business students and those who plan on taking supervisory and management responsibilities are encouraged to take the course.

Course instructors Dr. Jacqueline Mayfield and Dr. Milton Mayfield are both associate professors of management in the College of Business Administration’s division of international business and technology studies. Dr. Jacqueline Mayfield’s research includes leader communication, human resources and international management. She received her Ph.D. in management from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Milton Mayfield’s research interests include leader communication, organization mortality, the international comic book industry and business strategy. He earned his Ph.D. in management from the University of Alabama.
