Recently, the Texas A&M International University “Fighting Dustdevil” Marching Band participated in the 24th Annual Candlelight Posada Holiday Lighted Parade, a regional competition in McAllen, TX, earning a first place award for Creativity and a second place award for Originality for their “Christmas Medley” marching show.

The TAMIU Marching Band competed against 11 other bands and 40 marching groups from throughout the region.

This fall was the first semester for the TAMIU “Fighting Dustdevil” Marching Band.  The 35-member band is under the direction of Dr. Michael Stone.

Dr. Stone said he attributes the success of the band to their talent.

“Sheer talent contributed to the band’s success; they are great group of kids,” said Dr. Stone.

Another Christmas celebration, sponsored by Sam’s Club, saw the band perform at the North Creek Cinema prior to a showing of the movie, “We Are Marshall.”

Musicians interested in joining band need to register for the class MUEN 1137.  Students receive college credit for participating in the Marching Band and majoring in music is not required.
