TAMIU Doctoral Students Show Excellence at System Ph.D. Conference

A group of five Texas A&M International University students recently participated in the annual Pathways to the Ph.D. Research Symposium Conference hosted by Prairie View A&M University, with one student receiving first prize.

Da Huo earned the award for his research projecting the impact of the 2008 Olympic Games, to be hosted by China, on that country’s duty-fee shops.

His empirical data offered insight for duty-free shops determining the optimum level and diversity of products to stock, based on US, European and Japanese visitor buying habits.

Other TAMIU doctoral students presenting their research at the Conference were Paul Komiak, Prasad Vemala, Michael Imhof, and Vanessa Garza.

This is the second year in a row that a TAMIU Ph.D. student from the University’s College of Business Administration places first in the competition.  At last year’s conference at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, student Paul Komiak received the first prize in the business category. All students benefit from the exposure to research, networking and presentation.

Pathways to the Ph.D. program is an A&M System-wide initiative to encourage students – from undergraduate to Ph.D. levels – to pursue their doctoral studies. Each year, the initiative hosts its Research Symposium at a different System site so that students can share their innovative research outcomes.
