TAMIU: Window Closing for Philanthropic Tax Breaks

The approaching start of the New Year also signals the end of annual opportunities for philanthropy and any tax breaks that can be accorded for 2006.

Texas A&M International University's Office of Institutional Advancement is working to get word out to its donors about the giving opportunity, said Candy Hein, vice president for institutional advancement.

She noted that while the University is not able to provide tax advice, it is encouraging donors to consult with their tax attorneys, accountants or financial planners to determine opportunities that could help their financial end-of-year planning.

“One option that might interest University donors is participation in the All4TAMIU Annual Fund which can support a college, a department, a program, or an individual student or faculty member,” Hein said.

“All4TAMIU Annual Fund donations can improve our students’ lives through scholarships, student/faculty research, student success, academic support and building projects. We’re asking our partners to ‘Watch Us Grow’ and, in appreciation, providing them with special bluebonnet seed packets that will bloom in the University’s primary color, maroon,” she continued.

She noted that last year TAMIU dedicated a donor wall in recognition of those who over the past 35 years have contributed about $50 million to the University, its students and its programs.  The wall is located in the Student Center. Hein’s office has also created an annual publication that traces annual donor support for the University.

For additional information, please contact Hein at 326.2175, e-mail chein@tamiu.edu, visit online or visit offices located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 262.

University office hours are from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The University will close for the holidays at noon on Friday, Dec. 22. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007.

Despite office closures, registration for the Spring Semester 2007 continues 24/7 at UOnline, located at schedule.tamiu.edu

Spring 2007 classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 16.
