IBC Lecture Series returns Wednesday to TAMIU

Poverty and income differences in the border region is the latest topic for the Texas A&M International University, College of Business Administration Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade International Bank of Commerce 2007 Keynote Speaker Series.

The Series returns with Dr. Joan Anderson and “Impact of Trade on Poverty and Income Disparities in the U.S.-México Region” on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 116.

This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Anderson, professor of economics at the University of San Diego, received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, San Diego. Her research areas of specialization are economic development of Latin America and applied econometrics.

She is currently co-writing a book on 50 years of change along the U.S.-México border. Her publications include many journal articles and two books: “Economic Policy Alternatives for the Latin American Crisis” and “Schooling for Success,” co-edited with Laura Randall. She was the co-editor of the Journal of Borderland Studies from 1995-2000.

Anderson received two Fulbrights to Latin America and received grants from the Ford and Tinker foundations as co-director on a research project for improving educational quality in Latin America. She served as the president of both the Business Association of Latin American Studies and the Association for Borderland Studies.

The IBC 2007 Keynote Speaker Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and business arenas.

The Series brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise to enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.

The next speaker in the Series, Deborah Meyers, will discuss “Current U.S. Border Enforcement Policies and Issues,” on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
