Two new shows make their debuts at the Texas A&M International University’s Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium this weekend. “Secrets of the Sun” premieres Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. with an encore at 8 p.m. and “Dark Side of the Moon” makes its debut Saturday,  Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.

As familiar as Laredoans are with the sun, the closest star to our planet still holds some secrets. Learn about those secrets in “Secrets of the Sun,” an intimate look at the role the sun plays in the life of the solar system.

From the nuclear forces churning at the heart of the sun to the mass ejections of solar material into surrounding space, the audience will experience the power of the sun and its impact on the planets and Earth. The feature traces the life cycle of the sun, going back to its beginnings and moving forward in time. Don’t miss “Secrets of the Sun” this month every Friday at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 6 p.m.

Visitors to the LBV Planetarium now have the chance to experience “Dark Side of the Moon” in full-color animation and stunning visuals. The show is based on Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, one of rock music’s greatest albums of all time. The album is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being on the charts longer than any other album in history. “Dark Side of the Moon” is scheduled to show every Saturday in January at 7 p.m.

Of note, the LBV Planetarium has changed its Saturday show times. Shows are now scheduled at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. There is no longer an 8 p.m. show.

This month’s shows at the LBV Planetarium also include “New Horizons,” “Stars of the Pharaohs” and “Kaluoka’hina.”

General admission is $5 for adults and $4 for children and TAMIU students, faculty and staff. Admission to premium shows (“Dark Side of the Moon”) is $6 for adults and $5 for children and TAMIU students, faculty and staff. Buy a ticket for any second show on the same evening and save $2.
