Meyers Offers Lecture for IBC Series at TAMIU

Deborah Meyers, senior policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) of Washington, D.C., will present at the International Bank of Commerce 2007 Keynote Speaker Series at Texas A&M International University.

The series, hosted by the College of Business Administration's Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT), returns on Wednesday, February 21 from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC), room 111. Meyers will present  "Current U.S. Border Enforcement Policies and Issues."

This event is free of charge and open to the public.

In addition to her work at the MPI, Meyers also directs the internship program. She was an associate in the International Migration Policy Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she managed a comparative project on self-governance at US and other International borders.

Meyers earned her MA in International Affairs from The George Washington University and her BA in History from Brandeis University (Phi Beta Kappa). She also served as a policy analyst at the US Commission on Immigration Reform (The Jordan Commission), and as a project associate for the US-Mexico Binational Study on Migration.

Meyers has more than 30 publications to her credit, including "One Face at the Border: Behind the Slogan," Migration Policy Institute, 2005; "Immigration: Mapping the New North American Reality," Policy Options, Vol.25, No.6 (Institute for Research on Public Policy, 2004).

She also served as principal investigator for a project assessing the implementation and impact of post 9/11 border-related changes, including the integration of inspectors at the border, changes in visa procedures, and implementation of an entry-exit tracking system.

The International Bank of Commerce 2007 Keynote Speaker Series provides an exciting opportunity to the University with presentations by individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise that enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.      

The next speaker in the series, Dr. Raul Hinojosa-Ojeda, will discuss " Global Competition and Western Hemispheric Integration," on Wednesday, March. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
