Encanto Español Set Friday and Saturday

Spend a magical evening enjoying fine wine and cheese, listening to poetry and watching classical Spanish, Flamenco and Nouveau Flamenco dance performances at the 2007 Encanto Español Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3 at the Laredo Center for the Arts, located downtown at 500 San Agustín.

The events will be presented by the Texas A&M International University Classical Spanish Ballet.

Tickets are $15 per person and are available by contacting members of the troupe, Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance at 326.2625 and at the TAMIU Student Center Information Desk.

Proceeds from this event benefit fine and performing arts student scholarships.

The wine and cheese reception starts at 7 p.m. and the poetry and dance performances at 8 p.m. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Dancers will perform to a mix of traditional and contemporary music. Also scheduled between some performances are poetry recitals. Students will recite poetry by poets such as José Martí and Antonio Machado.

The TAMIU Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gilberto D. Soto, is scheduled to provide music for some of the dance routines.

Parking will be available at the Laredo National Bank parking lots.
