PDK Chapter Installed at TAMIU
On Friday (Feb. 23, 2007), Texas A&M International University installed a chapter of the education society, Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK).
The installation took place in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Great Room.
Chapter Organizer and adviser is Dr. Archibald Laud-Hammond, TAMIU assistant professor of philosophy and political science in the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of social sciences.
President of the TAMIU PDK Chapter is Dr. Barbara Greybeck, TAMIU associate professor in the College of Education and interim chair of its department of curriculum and instruction.
The ceremony served to sign the Laredo charter, install officers and affirm members. Dr. Billie Spellman, PDK director of Chapter Relations, recognized the TAMIU Chapter. PDK Region C representative Dr. Sandee Crowther led the affirmation team and Michael Wolfenbarger, PDK Chapter and member Liaison, assisted her.
The premier professional association for educators was founded in 1906. Its headquarters are located in Bloomington, Indiana where its international office has been based since 1956. Since its founding, this member-based association has served more than 500,000 members in communities across the United States and abroad.
A dedicated advocate for the public schools, PDK maintains an extensive network of more than 650 PDK chapters in the United States, Canada, and nations in Europe and Asia. The association publishes the Phi Delta Kappan, the most cited education journal in the United States, and sponsors the annual Phi Delta Kappa/Gallup Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools.
For the past century, PDK has strived to prepare the next generation ofeducators as well as to serve practicing teachers, administrators, college educators, and those concerned about public education through a wide range of innovative initiatives based on visionary leadership, relevant research, and dedicated service.
