TAMIU Hosts Energy Conservation Workshop Kick-Off

Local residential building contractors will have an opportunity to learn about energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy through an innovative series of workshops to be launched at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Texas A&M International University’s Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111.

The luncheon and workshop series is offered by TAMIU in partnership with the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) and the assistance of the City of Laredo Building Department and the Laredo Builders Association (LBA) Education Committee.

The kickoff luncheon will include a legislative update by Perry Been, SECO deputy director.
Subsequent training sessions will cover the Texas Residential Code and the basic code requirements on air leakage and insulation, building envelopes, and HVAC and compliance methods. All workshops will be held at TAMIU.

The training sessions and their dates of offer are:
May 23 – Texas Residential Code
June 13 – Air Leakage and Insulation
June 27 – Building Envelopes
July 11 – HVAC and Hot Water
July 23 – Project Advancement and Sustainability

The initiative was developed with the assistance of TAMIU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Dan Jones; Pat Abrego, TAMIU director of instructional technology; Erasmo Villarreal, City of Laredo building department director and Steve Canales, LBA education committee chair.
