Flores Features in ‘Voices’ Lecture at TAMIU April 18

The Voices in the Monte Series continues at Texas A&M International University with novelist and short story writer, Laredoan Carlos Nicolás Flores. The author will present a Talk on Craft on Wednesday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in Bob Bullock Hall, room 101 and a reading and book signing later that same day at 7:30 p.m. in Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center, room 102.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Flores, a co-founding director of the South Texas Writing Project, is an award-winning short story writer and novelist. His young adult novel, “Our House on Hueco,” was published in 2006 by Texas Tech University Press to rave reviews. The book was also nominated for the National Book of the Year award in young people’s literature, the Premio Aztlan, and the Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Book Award and was selected by the San Antonio Express-News as one of the best books published in 2006. It is currently a finalist in contests sponsored by the Texas Institute of Letters and ForeWord magazine.

His manuscript “Friend of a Minor Poet” was a finalist in the Mid-List First Series Award for the Novel in 2002. Flores’ “Sex As a Political Condition,” a satire of the cultural wars on the Mexican-American border, won third place in the Chicano/Latino Literary Contest in 2003.
